What are Zyrtec tablets?

CETIRIZINE (Zyrtec®) belongs to a family of drugs known as "antihistamine". Antihistamines work by preventing the effects of a substance called histamine, which is produced by the body. Zyrtec is used to relieve or prevent the symptoms of hay fever and other types of allergy. It is also used to help relieve itching and hives.

What medicines may interact with Zyrtec?

Because Zyrtec can cause drowsiness, other medicines that also cause drowsiness may increase this effect of Zyrtec. Some medicines that cause drowsiness are:
  • alcohol
  • certain medicines used for anxiety or to help produce sleep (for example, alprazolam, chloral hydrate, diazepam, lorazepam, meprobamate)
  • certain antidepressants or tranquilizers (for example, amitriptyline, chlorpromazine, desipramine, doxepin, imipramine, nortriptyline, thioridazine, trifluoperazine)
  • barbiturates such as phenobarbital
  • certain narcotics or pain medicines (for example, codeine, hydrocodone, meperidine, methadone, morphine, oxycodone, or propoxyphene)
  • certain antihistamines used in cold medicines (for example, diphenhydramine or chlorpheniramine)

Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, including unprescripted medicines, herbal products ,or nutritional supplements . Also tell your doctor if you frequently take drinks with caffeine or alcohol,or if you smoke. These may affect the way Zyrtec works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.

  • kidney disease
  • breast-feeding

If it upsets your stomach it may help to take it a glass of warm water or milk. Take your doses according to your daily schedule. Do not take it more often than prescribed. Finish the full course prescribed by your doctor even if you think your condition gets better. Do not stop taking except your doctor say otherwise.

Contact your doctor concerning the use of this medicine by children. Special care may be needed.

    If you miss a dose...

Take the forgotten dose as soon as you recollect. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and keep your regular schedule. Never try to "catch up" by doubling the dose!

What is the shelf life of the pills?

    • The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.

  • What is a generic drug?

A generic drug (pl. generic drugs, short: generics) is a drug which is identical, or bioequivalent to a brand name pill in quality, performance characteristics, dosage form, safety, strength, route of administration, performance characteristics . Generics must contain the same active ingredients as the original formulation. New medicines, like other recently contrived products, manufacture and distribute under patent protection. The patent protects the investment in the drug's development by giving the company the sole right to sell the medicine while the patent is in effect. When patents or other periods of exclusivity expire, manufacturers can apply to the FDA to sell generic versions. The ANDA process does not require the drug sponsor to repeat costly animal and clinical research on ingredients or dosage forms already approved for safety and effectiveness. This applies to drugs first marketed after 1962.

    What is Viagra

Sildenafil (Viagra) is indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Erection is mediated by the release of nitric oxide in the corpus cavernosum of the penis. Nitric oxide stimulates the enzyme guanylate cyclase, which increases levels of cGMP; it is this response that creates smooth muscle relaxation and blood flow. A substance called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) leads to the degradation of cGMP. Sildenafil increases the availability of cGMP. Randomized controlled clinical trials demonstrate improved sexual performance as measured by firmness of erection, ability to maintain erection after penetration, as well as satisfaction and enjoyment with intercourse. The usual recommended dose is 50 mg administered 30-60 minutes prior to intercourse, with maximum recommended dosing frequency once per day. Clinical trials regarding the use of sildenafil to treat opioid-induced sexual dysfunction, in men or women, have not been conducted.
