What are ondansetron tablets?
ONDANSETRON (Zofran®, Zofran ODT®) helps to relieve nausea and vomiting, especially when associated with the treatment of cancer (chemotherapy). Ondansetron may also be used to prevent or treat nausea and vomiting that occurs after surgery, and occasionally is used to treat severe vomiting during pregnancy.
What medicines may interact with Zofran?
• carbamazepine
• rifapentine
• cyclophosphamide
• tramadol
• bosentan
• rifabutin
• cisplatin
• rifampin
• phenobarbital
• St. John's wort
• phenytoin
Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, including unprescripted medicines,herbal products ,or nutritional supplements . Also tell your doctor if you frequently take drinks with caffeine or alcohol,or if you smoke. These may affect the way Zofran works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.
What should my doctor be informed about before I take Zofran?
He needs to know whether you feel any of these conditions:
• pregnant or trying to get pregnant
• an unusual or allergic reaction to ondansetron, granisetron, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
• liver disease
• breast-feeding
How should Zofran be taken?
Take pills by mouth.Precisely follow the directions on the prescription form. Zofran can be taken with or without food. If it upsets your stomach it may help to take it a glass of warm water or milk. Take your doses according to your daily schedule. Do not take it more often than prescribed. Finish the full course prescribed by your doctor even if you think your condition gets better. Do not stop taking except your doctor say otherwise.
Zofran® tablets: Take regular ondansetron tablets by mouth. Swallow the tablets with a drink of water.
Zofran ODT® tablets: These tablets are made to dissolve in the mouth without having to take them with water. Place the tablet in the mouth and allow it to dissolve, then swallow. While you may take these tablets with water, it is not necessary to do so.
If you are taking ondansetron to prevent nausea due to chemotherapy, the first dose of ondansetron is usually given 30 minutes before chemotherapy, followed by a dose at regular intervals for one or two days after chemotherapy.
Contact your doctor concerning the use of this medicine by children. Special care may be needed.
If you miss a dose...
Take the forgotten dose as soon as you recollect. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and keep your regular schedule. Never try to "catch up" by doubling the dose!
What side effects may I feel during Zofran treatment?
Side effects that should immediately be reported to your prescriber or health care professional:
• tightness in the chest
• fever and chills
• fast or irregular heartbeat
• skin rash, itching
• difficulty breathing, wheezing, shortness of breath
• swelling of the face, tongue, throat, hands and feet
Side effects that do not require special medical attention (visit your doctor if they continue or are bothersome):
• constipation or diarrhea
• stomach pain
• tiredness
• headache
• dry mouth
• fainting or lightheadedness
What should I take into consideration during Zofran treatment?
Check with your prescriber or health care professional as soon as you can if you have any sign of an allergic reaction.
Do not take alcohol while taking ondansetron.

Zofran can be stored at room temperature. Protect from small children and direct sunbeams.Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
What is the shelf life of the pills?
- The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
