What are Zithromax tablets?
AZITHROMYCIN (Zithromax®) is a macrolide antibiotic that interferes with the growth of bacterial cells. It is used to treat bacterial infections in many different parts of the body. Azithromycin also treats sexually transmitted vaginal or urinary tract infections caused by chlamydia. It will not work for colds, flu, or other virus infections.

What should my doctor be informed about before I take Zithromax?
He needs to know whether you feel any of these conditions:
• kidney disease• an unusual or allergic reaction to azithromycin, other macrolide antibiotics (such as erythromycin), foods, dyes, or preservatives
• pneumonia
• breast-feeding
• other chronic illness
• stomach problems (especially colitis)
How should Zithromax be taken?
Take pills by mouth.Precisely follow the directions on the prescription form. Zithromax can be taken with or without food. If it upsets your stomach it may help to take it a glass of warm water or milk. Take your doses according to your daily schedule. Do not take it more often than prescribed. Finish the full course prescribed by your doctor even if you think your condition gets better. Do not stop taking except your doctor say otherwise.
Contact your doctor concerning the use of this medicine by children. Special care may be needed.
If you miss a dose...
Take the forgotten dose as soon as you recollect. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and keep your regular schedule. Never try to "catch up" by doubling the dose!
What side effects may I feel during Zithromax treatment?

Rare or uncommon:
• dark yellow or brown urine• irregular heartbeat, palpitations, or chest pain
• yellowing of the eyes or skin
• skin rash, itching
• difficulty breathing
• severe or watery diarrhea
• vomiting
Side effects that do not require special medical attention (visit your doctor if they continue or are bothersome):
• diarrhea• tiredness
• hearing loss
• nausea
• increased sensitivity to the sun
• dizziness, drowsiness
• stomach pain or cramps
• headache
• vaginal irritation, itching or discharge
What should I take into consideration during Zithromax treatment?
Tell your prescriber or health care professional if your symptoms do not improve in 2 to 3 days. Contact your prescriber or health care professional as soon as you can if you get an allergic reaction to azithromycin, such as rash, itching, difficulty swallowing, or swelling of the face, lips or tongue.
If you get severe or watery diarrhea, do not treat yourself. Call your prescriber or health care professional for advice.
Antacids can stop azithromycin from working. If you get an upset stomach and want to take an antacid, make sure there is an interval of at least 2 hours since you last took azithromycin, or 4 hours before your next dose.
Tell your doctor or dentist that you take Zithromax before you receive any medical or dental care, emergency care, or surgery.
