What are diclofenac tablets?
DICLOFENAC (Voltaren®) belongs to a family of anti-inflammatory drugs. Diclofenac reduces the joint pain, stiffness, inflammation, or swelling caused by rheumatoid arthritis (rheumatism) and osteoarthritis.
What medicines may interact with Voltaren?
• alcohol
• medicines for high blood pressure
• cidofovir
• methotrexate
• drospirenone; ethinyl estradiol (Yasmin®)
• alendronate
• entecavir
• pemetrexed
• lithium
• cyclosporine
• medicines that affect platelets
• medicines that treat or prevent blood clots such as warfarin and other 'blood thinners'
• herbal products that contain feverfew, garlic, ginger, or ginkgo biloba
• other antiinflammatory drugs (such as ibuprofen or prednisone)
• aspirin and aspirin-like medicines
• water pills (diuretics)
Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, including unprescripted medicines,herbal products ,or nutritional supplements . Also tell your doctor if you frequently take drinks with caffeine or alcohol,or if you smoke. These may affect the way Voltaren works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.
What should my doctor be informed about before I take Voltaren?
He needs to know whether you feel any of these conditions:
• asthma, especially aspirin sensitive asthma
• liver disease
• history of stroke
• coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery within the past 2 weeks
• ulcerative colitis
• diabetes
• pregnant or trying to get pregnant
• heart or circulation problems like angina, high blood pressure, heart failure, heart rhythm problems, history of heart attack, history of blood clots, or leg edema (fluid retention)
• kidney disease
• dental disease
• porphyria
• bleeding problems or taking medicines that make you bleed more easily such as anticoagulants ('blood thinners')
• stomach or duodenal ulcers
• drink more than 3 alcohol-containing beverages a day
• systemic lupus erythematosus
• cigarette smoker
• an unusual or allergic reaction to diclofenac, aspirin, other salicylates, other NSAIDs, other medicines, foods, dyes or preservatives
• breast-feeding
How should Voltaren be taken?
Take pills by mouth.Precisely follow the directions on the prescription form. Voltaren can be taken with or without food. If it upsets your stomach it may help to take it a glass of warm water or milk. Take your doses according to your daily schedule. Do not take it more often than prescribed. Finish the full course prescribed by your doctor even if you think your condition gets better. Do not stop taking except your doctor say otherwise.
Contact your doctor concerning the use of this medicine by children. Special care may be needed.
If you miss a dose...
Take the forgotten dose as soon as you recollect. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and keep your regular schedule. Never try to "catch up" by doubling the dose!
What side effects may I feel during Voltaren treatment?
Elderly patients are at increased risk for developing side effects.
Side effects that should immediately be reported to your prescriber or health care professional:
• signs of bleeding from the stomach - black tarry stools, blood in the urine, unusual tiredness or weakness, vomiting blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds
• stomach pain or cramps
• swelling of feet or ankles
• difficulty swallowing, severe heartburn or burning, pain in throat
• signs of an allergic reaction - difficulty breathing or wheezing, skin rash, redness, blistering or peeling skin, hives, or itching, swelling of eyelids, throat, lips
• pain or difficulty passing urine
• change in the amount of urine passed
• yellowing and/or itching of eyes or skin, upper right abdominal/chest tenderness, fatigue
Side effects that do not require special medical attention (visit your doctor if they continue or are bothersome):
• constipation or diarrhea
• gas or heartburn
• headache
• dizziness
• nausea, vomiting
What should I take into consideration during Voltaren treatment?
Let your prescriber or health care professional know if your pain continues, do not take with other pain-killers without advice. If you get flu-like symptoms (fever, chills, muscle aches and pains), call your prescriber or health care professional; do not treat yourself.
To reduce unpleasant effects on your throat and stomach, take diclofenac with a full glass of water and never just before lying down. If you notice black, tarry stools or experience severe stomach pain and/or vomit blood or what looks like coffee grounds, notify your health care prescriber immediately.
Tell your doctor or dentist that you take Voltaren before you receive any medical or dental care, emergency care, or surgery.
It is especially important not to use diclofenac during the last 3 months of pregnancy unless specifically directed to do so by your health care provider. Diclofenac may cause problems in the unborn child or complications during delivery.

Voltaren can be stored at room temperature. Protect from small children and direct sunbeams.Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
What is the shelf life of the pills?
- The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
