What are Propecia tablets?

FINASTERIDE (Propecia®, Proscar®) can reduce the size of the prostate gland in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia. The prostate is a part of the male reproductive system that produces a milky fluid for sperm. Over the age of 50 most men develop an enlarged prostate. As the prostate gets bigger it can restrict the flow of urine. Finasteride can help to reduce symptoms caused by BPH such as a weak or interrupted urine flow; a feeling that the bladder is not completely empty; a need to pass urine more often, especially at night; an urgent feeling that you must pass urine right away; a delay or hesitation when you start to urinate.

What medicines may interact with Propecia?

• male hormones (example: testosterone)
• some blood pressure medications
• soy isoflavones supplements

What is a generic drug?

A generic drug (pl. generic drugs, short: generics) is a drug which is identical, or bioequivalent to a brand name pill in quality, performance characteristics, dosage form, safety, strength, route of administration, performance characteristics . Generics must contain the same active ingredients as the original formulation. New medicines, like other recently contrived products, manufacture and distribute under patent protection. The patent protects the investment in the drug's development by giving the company the sole right to sell the medicine while the patent is in effect. When patents or other periods of exclusivity expire, manufacturers can apply to the FDA to sell generic versions. The ANDA process does not require the drug sponsor to repeat costly animal and clinical research on ingredients or dosage forms already approved for safety and effectiveness. This applies to drugs first marketed after 1962.

What is Viagra

Sildenafil (Viagra) is indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Erection is mediated by the release of nitric oxide in the corpus cavernosum of the penis. Nitric oxide stimulates the enzyme guanylate cyclase, which increases levels of cGMP; it is this response that creates smooth muscle relaxation and blood flow. A substance called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) leads to the degradation of cGMP. Sildenafil increases the availability of cGMP. Randomized controlled clinical trials demonstrate improved sexual performance as measured by firmness of erection, ability to maintain erection after penetration, as well as satisfaction and enjoyment with intercourse. The usual recommended dose is 50 mg administered 30-60 minutes prior to intercourse, with maximum recommended dosing frequency once per day. Clinical trials regarding the use of sildenafil to treat opioid-induced sexual dysfunction, in men or women, have not been conducted.
