Cancer is not just one disease, but a large group of almost one hundred diseases. Its two main characteristics are uncontrolled growth of the cells in the human body and the ability of these cells to migrate from the original site and spread to distant sites. If the spread is not controlled, cancer can result in death.
Casodex
Casodex (GEneric name -- BICALUTAMIDE) belongs to a family of drugs that block the effect of the male hormone testosterone. Prostate cancer responds to the removal of androgens.
DANAZOL (Danocrine®) slows production of the female hormone estrogen. Danazol is a man-made steroid that has similar actions to androgens, or male sex hormones. Danazol relieves the symptoms of endometriosis by shrinking the abnormal tissue, which forms a lining to the womb. Danazol can reduce the growth of abnormal breast tissue and is helpful in the treatment of fibrocystic breast disease. Danazol also treats a disorder that affects both men and women called hereditary angioedema, which causes swelling and pain in the arms, legs, face, throat, colon, or reproductive (sex) organs.
HYDROXYUREA (Droxia®, Hydrea®) is used to treat sickle cell disease or certain types of cancer. Hydroxyurea is used for treating cancers of the blood, skin, ovary and head and neck. Hydroxyurea is also used to decrease the painful episodes associated with sickle cell disease. Hydroxyurea does not cure sickle cell disease, but may help to control the symptoms when used on a regular basis.
METHOTREXATE is a type of chemotherapy that is used to treat certain kinds of cancer and other diseases. Methotrexate affects cells that are rapidly growing such as cancer cells, cells of psoriasis, and cells in your mouth and stomach. Methotrexate is used to treat many different types of cancers including leukemias, lymphoma, breast cancer, and others. Lower dose of methotrexate may be given to patients with psoriasis or rheumatoid arthritis.
TAMOXIFEN (Nolvadex) is used for treating breast cancer that has spread to other sites in the body. It is also used along with other medicines to treat other types of breast cancer. It is used in women who are at high risk for breast cancer and in women with DCIS (after surgery and radiation) to decrease the risk of developing breast cancer.
Tamoxifen is an antiestrogen. It works by blocking the effect of estrogen on certain tumors. This may prevent the growth of tumors that are activated by estrogen.
A generic drug (pl. generic drugs, short: generics) is a drug which is identical, or bioequivalent to a brand name pill in quality, performance characteristics, dosage form, safety, strength, route of administration, performance characteristics . Generics must contain the same active ingredients as the original formulation.
New medicines, like other recently contrived products, manufacture and distribute under patent protection. The patent protects the investment in the drug's development by giving the company the sole right to sell the medicine while the patent is in effect. When patents or other periods of exclusivity expire, manufacturers can apply to the FDA to sell generic versions. The ANDA process does not require the drug sponsor to repeat costly animal and clinical research on ingredients or dosage forms already approved for safety and effectiveness. This applies to drugs first marketed after 1962.

What is Viagra
Sildenafil (Viagra) is indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Erection is mediated by the release of nitric oxide in the corpus cavernosum of the penis. Nitric oxide stimulates the enzyme guanylate cyclase, which increases levels of cGMP; it is this response that creates smooth muscle relaxation and blood flow. A substance called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) leads to the degradation of cGMP. Sildenafil increases the availability of cGMP. Randomized controlled clinical trials demonstrate improved sexual performance as measured by firmness of erection, ability to maintain erection after penetration, as well as satisfaction and enjoyment with intercourse. The usual recommended dose is 50 mg administered 30-60 minutes prior to intercourse, with maximum recommended dosing frequency once per day. Clinical trials regarding the use of sildenafil to treat opioid-induced sexual dysfunction, in men or women, have not been conducted.
